Centering BIPOC Voices, Wisdom, and Leadership in Sexual Wellness.
The BIPOC Committee of ACSSW is dedicated to centering, supporting, and amplifying the voices, experiences, and leadership of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color within the fields of counseling, sexology, and sexual wellness. The committee is grounded in the recognition that BIPOC communities have been historically marginalized, excluded, and harmed within systems of healthcare, education, research, and professional practice, particularly in matters related to sexuality, bodies, pleasure, and identity.
The committee's mission is to foster a professional environment within ACSSW that affirms BIPOC identities, honors lived experience as essential knowledge and actively works to dismantle systemic racism and racialized inequities embedded in sexual wellness training, theory, research, and clinical practice. The BIPOC Committee understands sexual wellness as deeply shaped by historical trauma, intergenerational oppression, cultural resilience, and ongoing structural barriers, and it seeks to ensure these realities are acknowledged and addressed rather than minimized or erased.
